Dear applicants!

It is high time you thought about your future and made right decisions! But you are having a tough time choosing your occupation, aren’t you? So, if you want to master English professionally, to learn about the specificities of studying the current state of the English language as well as Ukrainian, if you want to join the upmarket profession as a translator, THE DEPARTMENT OF THEORY, PRACTICE AND TRANSLATION OF ENGLISH is waiting just for You!!!!

During the first two years of studying for a Bachelor’s Degree, students familiarize themselves with fundamental principles of translating processes necessary for the profession to-be; the third-year students master their acquired skills and competencies for the profession of a translator. Both the third and fourth years of studying include the practical courses of text translation in the spheres of computer sciences, general engineering, environmental protection, electronics, law, and business. The fourth year of studying is aimed at acquiring the fundamentals of interpretation. The knowledge, skills, and abilities acquired during lectures and seminars are tested, honed and improved during translation practical training periods.

The individual research work and course papers, being obligatory for the third-year and fourth-year students, are a great opportunity for those who are eager to become future scientists and write their scientific papers in order to demonstrate the ability to apply the obtained knowledge. The Faculty of Linguistics provides the students with all the opportunities to live comfortably in dormitories on the university campus. The territory of the University has its own history and secrecy. Furthermore, the faculty and, in turn, the department are located conveniently to meet the students’ needs both for studying and leisure time. The sixth floor of the building № 7 is our “linguistics headquarters” and the centre of the faculty’s structural units such as the dean’s office, the staff room, the library, the computer lab, and brightly lit lecture rooms. Moreover, the CENTER FOR INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES is also at your service because it goes without saying that it is impossible to imagine present-day life without the capacity of the World Wide Web.

Although the Faculty of Linguistics has a rather brief history as compared to the long history of the University itself, it was the first one to start training the translators with a focus on specialized languages under study. It was made possible due to University’s international activities including cooperation with the universities in many countries in Europe, North and South America, and Asia. Both students and teachers are at present involved in an international activity that includes cooperation with foreign higher education institutions. More than twenty students of the department have had the opportunity to study abroad at the programme partner universities under Erasmus programme. Further information on students’ opportunities to participate in various international projects and programmes can be found on the websites of the Faculty and the Department.

In order to provide our graduates with more potentialities during employment, they are offered the courses in methodology, pedagogy, and psychology being held at the undergraduate level to give the students the opportunity to work as teachers not only at schools but also in higher educational institutions. Our graduates who work at the department are the proof of the written above.
